IT Budgets in 2011: Where Do We Stand?

Posted by Dan Blatter on Jun 21, 2011 11:59:00 AM

upanddownAs the U.S. slowly pulls itself out of the recession that has loomed over the nation for the past several years, many are wondering how the current economic climate will affect business spending. For those in the IT industry, how do economic conditions affect IT budgets?

According to the 2011 AT&T Business Continuity Study, which surveyed IT executives in Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., there is cause for cautious optimism. When asked “How would you characterize your IT budget for 2011?”, 76% of all IT executives indicated that budgets were expected to be about the same or higher for 2011 than in the previous two years. This includes 43% indicating that budgets would be higher, and 33% indicating that they would remain about the same.

The city with executives most likely to indicate that IT budgets would be higher was Washington D.C., with 51% percent of executives saying that budgets would increase, compared to 43% nationally.

The city with executives least likely to indicate that budgets would be higher was Dallas, with 35% of respondents saying that IT budgets were likely to increase in 2011.
