A Look Inside the HP Z820

Posted by The Monkey on Mar 31, 2014 9:00:00 PM

z820The Z820 Workstation is HP’s shining star, built for high end computing and visualization. The latest addition to the Z series offers high quality, expandable design suitable for a wide variety of computing needs.

Many tout this workstation as a tough competitor to the Mac Pro, Apple’s high end workhorse. Some major features include Intel Xeon processors and support for up to 24 processing cores. With the latest in NVIDIA professional graphics and the capability to have up to 512GB of storage, many engineers, film makers and other creatives can work fluidly on projects that require a massive amount of space. The unit is “tool-free”, making it easy to take apart, repair, or upgrade, and put back together again. Bill Detwiler of TechRepublic and CNET’s Cracking Open tore down the device and took a tour around the easy to navigate unit. The folks over at iFixIt also have a great step by step visual manual of the teardown they performed on the Z820 and gave it a 10 out of 10 repairability score.
