Once dominated by Sun and Apollo, the workstation market used to be tightly wound up by a large variety of software and independent software vendor (ISV) relationships, but Dell created the necessary conditions to persuade those software developers that the Dell Precision line was the better platform. Not too long afterwards, Dell workstations dominated nearly half of the marketplace. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Jeff Clarke sums it up nicely by stating that the Dell Precision Workstations “really began the change from [Dell] being a pure arms dealer, to a solutions provider for customers.” What are your thoughts on this video?
