Intel PCI Express - What's New for Hard Drives

There are some new developments sitting on the horizon of IT hardware.

The extremely fast PCI Express technology is soon to become more mainstream. SSDs that connect via PCI Express are already in use in some high-end systems such as the Mac Pro and a few Ultrabooks, but consumers may soon be seeing a widespread availability of these super-fast drives.

PCI Express, or Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, became the standard in 2004 as a connection that could handle the various types of cards, like video and sound, which most computer systems need.

This May ServerMonkey turns 3! Over the past three years ServerMonkey has grown and thrived, and just like a baby we’ve learned to crawl, walk and now run at our own pace in the realm of refurbished IT equipment.

In the past three years, ServerMonkey has increased its revenue more than 30% year over year since its inception. And with our buy back program, we’ve increased the bottom line of numerous companies and organizations to the tune of $20 million.

With those increasing numbers, we’ve been able to stimulate the economy even more by adding jobs on a consistent basis, one monkey at time. What started out as a five person manned operation has now expanded to over 30 diverse employees, each highly qualified with the necessary skills and certifications.

This week the nation honored the entrepreneurs and small business owners of America by celebrating National Small Business Week 2014. This year marks the 50th National Small Business Week since 1963.

Approximately half of all Americans work for or own a small business. Additionally, these small businesses create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. annually and that’s no small potatoes.

Internet Explorer Security Flaw Gives Hackers Control

Just a few weeks after OpenSSL’s Heartbleed Bug sent many online users into a frantic password changing frenzy, those that surf the web have another reason to question their online safety.

Microsoft announced that versions of Internet Explorer 6-11 have been affected by a “zero day” security flaw. FireEye, an online company specializing in security, announced the exploit over the weekend and estimates that 26.25% of the browser market is at risk. The security flaw is considered a “zero day” exploit because there were zero days warning to release a patch that could prevent an attack.

Earth Day: 10 Ways to be Green in Technology

Started in 1970, the Earth Day movement has mobilized people around the world for over four decades to commit over A Billion Acts of Green to protect the planet. For this year’s Earth Day we compiled a list of 10 Ways to be Green in Technology that can help you do your part to make life greener.

1. Buy refurbished. Refurbished items such as computers, tablets and other IT hardware and gadgets have been professionally tested and certified to guarantee its quality. Buying refurbished not only saves money, but it reduces the carbon output from manufacturing new products.

2. Donate old computers, cell phones, tablets. If you must have all the latest and greatest gadgets, donating your older models is another effective and green way to get rid of them and keep them out of landfills. Help the environment and others by donating old electronics to charities. A great charity to donate to is your local Goodwill.

Heartbleed Bug

The Heartbleed encryption error has taken the interwebs by storm this week. The bug that was discovered in the popular OpenSSL encryption software has seemingly been around for over 2 years, as the result of a coding error on New Year’s Eve in 2011.

It has been estimated that over 500,000 websites could have been affected by Heartbleed. The bug allows a hacker to repeatedly access the memory of data servers and steal vital user data. Social security numbers, credit card numbers, banking info, passwords, usernames, and sensitive information are all up for grabs.
