Gone are the days of Internet Explorer. With Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, Microsoft’s browser has been on the back burner for far too long. Code named “Spartan,” Microsoft is rumored to be releasing a new browser as part of their Windows 10 release. Microsoft wants to change public perception. They have been gathering feedback from users in hopes to gain followers back.
Spartan is not Internet Explorer 12. It will supposedly look and feel like a mixture of Chrome and Firefox. Spartan will likely use Microsoft’s Chakra JavaScript Engine and Microsoft’s Trident rendering engine. Spartan will be a lightweight browser that supports extensions. It is currently unknown if they will allow support on other operating systems, though it’s very possible.
Other rumors include Microsoft changing the name of the current Internet Explorer, to show how different it is from the original. Previous versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer have been vulnerable to security breaches. Further steps have been taken to stop support for older versions of the browser and operating systems starting on January 16, 2015.
