Find me on:

windows-10Microsoft has announced that they will be releasing Windows 10 on July 29. The new upgrade will be free if customers upgrade within the first year (July 29, 2016). Those who do not upgrade within the first year will have to pay $119 for Windows 10 home and $199 for Windows 10 Professional. A Windows 10 Pro Pack, enabling you to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Professional will cost you $99.

Windows 10 will bring back the old, familiar start menu and desktop; you will also have the capability to run multiple desktops. Windows 10 will also be equipped with a new web browser called Edge, which supports applications and extensions. Action Center will provide you with notifications on your PC’s status such as emails, updates, and app messages. For you gamers out there, Windows 10 will also be equipped with an app that allows video games to be streamed from your PC/tablet to your Xbox.

If you would like to utilize Windows Hello features, you may need to buy additional equipment. Windows Hello features include unlocking your computer via facial recognition, finger print scans, or an iris reader.

While the new software will come with great updates, there will also be some losses. If you are stuck in the nostalgic days of Hearts, Windows Media Center, and Windows 7 desktop gadgets, you will have to say goodbye when you update to Windows 10. If you like to watch DVDs on your computer, you will now need a separate playback software; a DVD option will not be out until later this year.

Windows 10 users will not have the option to defer updates any longer. Instead, updates will automatically install onto the computer. If you are currently running Windows 7 or 8, you’ll need to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 before you can upgrade to Windows 10. If you have anything older, you will have to buy Windows 10 to install completely new. Make sure to back up your data before updating.

The Windows 10 for phones upgrade date has not yet been released.
